In response to the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA) in the Senate, Bob Wendelgass, President and CEO of Clean Water Action, released the following statement:
“The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) is the largest investment in combating the climate crisis ever; our work, however, is not done. Reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions by up to 40 percent by 2030 will avert more irreparable climate damage. These wins for climate are not without cost. Provisions for fossil fuels will perpetuate environmental injustices in Appalachia, the Gulf coast, and Alaska as threats from oil and gas production remain. President Biden should use his executive authority to address these climate injustices. Despite the significant flaws in the IRA, this bill is a vital step in the right direction for climate and community. We urge the House to quickly pass the IRA and for President Biden to sign it into law without delay.”
