A statement from Deanna White, Clean Water Action’s Minnesota Director, regarding the death of George Floyd at the hands of four Minneapolis Police Officers.
Clean Water Action expresses our deepest condolences to the family of George Floyd. We are appalled at the treatment of Mr. Floyd by Minneapolis police officers. Every member of our community deserves to feel safe and protected, there is no excuse for this kind of behavior by those who are supposed to protect and serve us. We join the call for a complete and thorough investigation and demand that justice be served for George Floyd and his family and our community -- the officers involved must be held accountable.
George Floyd joins the long list of Americans of color who have been killed as a result of police action. This must stop. While police, city, and state officials must bring a just resolution to this case, they also need to work with our communities to reform the structures that perpetuate tragedies like this in the first place.
