Washington DC -- Today President Biden announced his American Jobs Plan, a plan to put people back to work, upgrade the nation’s infrastructure, and reform the nation’s corporate tax code. The proposal includes replacing 100% of lead service lines across the nation, capping orphan oil and gas wells, and ending subsidies for the fossil fuel industry

Clean Water Action President and CEO, Bob Wendelgass, released the following statement:

“This is an ambitious and critical plan -- and Congress should expand on it.  We’ve let our infrastructure fall apart while previous Congresses and Administrations kicked the can down the road on the necessary investments to protect our water, build for the future, and create jobs. We applaud the Biden/Harris administration’s leadership in laying out a vision for investment that improves people’s lives, creates good-paying jobs, and addresses neglected infrastructure needs while promoting innovation. Investing in clean drinking water by replacing all lead service lines and supporting critical needs in rural communities are just two examples of the game-changing proposals in the American Jobs Plan.

The plan’s focus on protecting the most vulnerable communities and investing in neighborhoods that have borne the brunt of polluting industries while reforming the corporate tax code and ending subsidies to the fossil fuel industry is long overdue. Today is a good day. We look forward to working with Congress to ensure that the American Jobs Plan is just a downpayment -- if we really want to build back better, we need to go big."
