Water is a human right. Water is Life.

As a supporter of Clean Water Action, you are most likely already in fundamental agreement with these statements. Right now in Michigan, legislation has been introduced that would bring us closer to securing these baseline truths. On May 15th at the Capitol you can help make sure that the right to clean water is a lived reality for all who rely upon the Great Lakes water basin.

Hosted by the Sierra Club, Clean Water Action, and the People's Water Board Coalition, this Michigan Lobby Day will provide opportunity to meet with House and Senate lawmakers to urge their support for the passage of Water Affordability and Polluter Pay legislation.

You will have the chance to meet with your lawmakers and urge them to support the Water Affordability Package introduced by Senator Stephanie Chang, Senator Rosemary Bayer, and Representative Donavan McKinney (SB 549-553/HB 5088-5991) and the Polluter Accountability Package introduced by Senator Jeff Irwin and Representative Jason Morgan (HB 5241-5247 and SB 605-611). Together, these important legislative packages address critical needs in our shared community, and would work to ensure everyone has access to clean and affordable water, regardless of where they live or how much money they make, and hold major polluters accountable for cleaning up the toxic messes they make instead of leaving communities and taxpayers to foot the bill.

With the Great Lakes comes great responsibility. Together we can assure that our shared waters are respected as the source of life, not commodified or polluted as the cost of business as usual. We all deserve to create a lifetime of memories that feature the security and beauty of fresh, clean water.

Free to attend but registration is required. Breakfast and lunch will be provided, as well as training and resources before meeting with lawmakers. We look forward to seeing you there!
