Still in the Pits: Oil and Gas Wastewater Disposal in California
The disposal of oil and gas wastewater into open and unlined pits puts drinking water at risk, pollutes the air and harms health. California regulators have allowed hundreds of unregulated pits to operate with little oversight. It's time to get California out of the pits and end this disposal method.

Mare has been with Clean Water Action for 20 years. He has personally raised over $3 Million in member contributions since he started working for the organization. Under his direction, the Oakland Phone Canvass improved its gross by 100%, hitting its first million-dollar year in 2008 and raising between $1.2 and $1.3 Million annually since then. He is currently working as the Western Regional Canvass Supervisor since 2013, which involves supervising our field and phone programs in California, Colorado, Texas, Rhode Island, and Minnesota. Jennifer Clary
Jennifer has served as a water policy and legislative analyst for Clean Water Action since 2003. She directs the Central Valley Program and serves on key state stakeholder committees, advising state agencies on actions to improve groundwater quality and allocate state funding for water infrastructure. Prior to joining Clean Water Action, Jennifer worked in the private sector, including a stint as a San Francisco tour guide, and advocated on environmental issues in San Francisco. She holds a bachelor's degree in Chemistry from U.C. Berkeley.
