(Hartford, CT) Clean Water Action is pleased to support and participate in efforts to assure that the Transportation Climate Initiative program successfully caps transportation emissions while equitably focusing on communities that have been overburdened by pollution.
Anne Hulick, Connecticut Director, stated “We’ve been part of this discussion for several years and I’m pleased that, in Connecticut, our diverse coalition is focusing on equitable solutions and prioritizing investments in communities that have been marginalized, literally surrounded by highways and bear a disproportionate burden of pollution from numerous sources as a direct result of systemic racist policies of the past. TCI, as it is being designed in CT, will prioritize 50% of the revenues going to those communities for cleaner and safer transit options as well as provide much needed revenue for other transit related priorities. Transportation emissions in CT account for 38% of overall emissions so this program can reduce toxic air pollution and improve quality of life.”
