The election is drawing near. We must join together in returning New Jersey’s pro-environment congressional delegation to our nation’s capital. It feels like every election season, we are told that this is the most important election yet, but this year, that sentiment could not be truer.
We have the ability to flip the U.S. House of Representatives to a majority that favors environmental protections, one that will not undermine the EPA at every turn. In doing so, we will make a positive change that will affect generations to come.
With In-person Early Voting beginning in our state (October 26th-November 3rd), it is crucial that we know who our Clean Water Action champions are on the ballot, cast our votes for the environment as well as share this voter information with friends and family. It is with great appreciation of our environmental champions’ hard work and accomplishments to date that Clean Water Action announces its endorsements this election season:
For President and Vice President:
Kamala Harris and Tim Walz: Vice President Harris and Governor Tim Walz have a demonstrated commitment to clean water. Vice President Harris is a visible leader in the Biden-Harris Administration's successful work to address environmental injustice, tackle the climate crisis, hold polluters accountable, reduce water pollution, and ensure clean drinking water for all. Governor Walz signed Amara's Law, the nation's strongest PFAS legislation to reduce use of these "forever" chemicals.
U.S. Senate:
Andy Kim (Open Seat) - Since he first entered office at the U.S. House of Representatives in 2019, Andy Kim has served the people NJ’s 3rd congressional district. He has focused on policies and funding that advance a clean energy economy and mitigate the effects of climate change. Andy Kim was a strong advocate for the Inflation Reduction Act, one of the largest investments in climate action to date. Andy Kim has been an ally of the environmental community and will continue to be when he is elected to the United States Senate.
U.S. House of Representatives:
Frank Pallone Jr. CD-6 (Incumbent) - Frank Pallone first began representing CD-6 in 1993. He has worked tirelessly with Clean Water Action and other environmental allies to ensure a better future for all people in New Jersey. He has been at the forefront of leading the movement for protecting the Jersey Shore and cleaning our state's water resources. As the Chair of the Energy and Commerce Committee, he spearheaded the drive for safer drinking water. Frank Pallone negotiated $15 billion to identify and replace lead service lines through the EPA's Drinking Water State Revolving Fund. His leadership and advocacy have been key to securing federal policies and funding that result in environmental success stories in the Garden State. Clean Water Action is proud to be a long-time supporter of Frank Pallone.
Sue Altman CD-7 (Challenger) - Sue Altman, a long-time ally of Clean Water Action, is shaking up business as usual in New Jersey. As the former State Director of NJ Working Families Alliance, she understands the needs of the average person and family. Sue Altman has been an ally in the fight for environmental justice and a cleaner energy future. When in Congress, Sue aims to make it easier to approve good, meaningful clean energy solutions, protect the EPA from attacks that would weaken its power, and support measures that protect our drinking water and turn off the tap on PFAs and other toxins. Sue also plans to protect open space and limit the warehouse expansion in New Jersey. Her opponent has consistently voted against environmental protection policies. Sue is a bright spot for an even brighter future. Let’s send her to Washington to help turn the congressional majority from red to blue-green and pro-environment.
Mikie Sherrill CD-11 (Incumbent) - Mikie Sherrill has been a loyal environmental advocate in the U.S. House since 2019 when she began her tenure. She strongly values protecting our water and ensuring it is safe and free of toxins. She advocated for additional funds for her district to protect water under the 2022 Water Resources Development Act. Mikie is also a strong advocate for public transportation, dedicated to investing in our infrastructure. She was subsequently key in the success of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. She aims to continue pushing for more clean energy and energy efficient solutions that will move us towards a better and economically sound future.
Bonnie Watson-Coleman CD-12 (Incumbent) - Bonnie Watson-Coleman is one of the strongest champions of environmental justice in the NJ Congressional delegation. She has been a crucial ally of Clean Water Action over her 9 years in the House of Representatives. From her involvement as a co-sponsor of the Clean Water Act of 2023 to her leadership as a co-sponsor of the Environmental Justice for All Act, she has continued to elevate the needs of the people of CD-12 and the entire state. Bonnie Watson-Coleman not only talks the talk but indeed walks the walk. She will continue to do so going forward representing CD-12.
