It’s another huge election year. But don’t get nervous – get organized! When our members and supporters vote, the environment wins. The primary election is September 3rd, and the general election is November 5th. Here is your guide to casting your primary AND general election votes this year.

The first step to being a voter is registering to vote. Check your voter registration status or register to vote online here! The deadline to vote in the primary election is August 24th and the deadline to vote in the November general election is October 26th.

Early In-Person Voting or Voting by Mail

Next, make a plan to vote! You don’t have to wait until Election Day to vote in Massachusetts. Our state offers both vote by mail AND in-person early voting. These are both great options if you aren’t sure about your plans on Election Day. (And we all know that one flat tire or sick toddler can derail even the best Election Day plans…)

Vote by Mail: The deadline to request a mail ballot for the primary election is 5pm, Monday, August 26, and the deadline to request a mail ballot for the November general election is 5pm, Tuesday, October 29. To return your mail ballot, you may mail it back using the envelope provided, hand-deliver your ballot to your local election office, drop your ballot off at an early voting location during early voting hours, or use a ballot drop box.

Early in-person voting: Early voting in Massachusetts will run from August 24 – August 30 for the primary election and from October 19 – November 1 for the November general election. Each city and town will have their own designated early-voting locations and schedule of early voting hours, so be sure to check yours.

Voting In-Person, on Election Day

Of course, you can always vote the classic way, at your polling place on Election Day. All polling places will be open from 7am-8pm for the September 3rd primary election and the November 5th general election. (Some cities and towns may choose to open the polls even earlier!) Find your polling place!

This election is a choice. We need leaders who will continue to fight climate change by building the clean energy future here in Massachusetts, not politicians who will keep us hooked on dirty and expensive fossil fuels. Make a plan to be a Clean Water Voter this election!
