We’re fighting for a Zero Waste future in Massachusetts, and we couldn’t be doing it without you. Thank you to our members for taking action and adding your voices to the fight. Because of your participation, we were able to deliver hundreds of letters and petition signatures to MassDEP and Governor Healey earlier this month urging her to make zero waste a reality in Massachusetts.

Massachusetts already has banned many things from being thrown in the trash. Certain categories of waste - like recyclables, yard waste, certain fabrics, and even mattresses -  are supposed to be diverted from the trash. Unfortunately,  these waste bans aren't well enforced, so our state produces millions of tons of waste that end up being buried in landfills or burned in incinerators.

Burying and burning trash pollutes our air, our water, and can harm the health of those that live nearby. But much of what we produce can and should be reused, repaired, recycled, or composted. To prevent unnecessary pollution, the waste bans need to be enforced, and easy access to composting and recycling should be a given in every community. Thank you to all of our members who signed our petition to enforce the waste bans!

In addition to calling on the Governor to put the policies in place to create a zero waste future for Massachusetts, Clean Water is also taking zero waste straight to a restaurant near you! This summer we are launching our award winning ReThink Disposable program in New England. ReThink Disposable partners with businesses and institutions that do food service to reduce the amount of waste they create by transitioning away from single-use, disposable items.

The goal is to cultivate a better experience for everyone involved: lower costs for businesses, provide a more positive experience for customers, and ultimately reduce waste in the environment. Know of a business you want to see get involved? Let us know by filling out this form!

We cannot thank you enough for your continued support and active involvement. We have the means to become a zero waste state, and together, we can get there.
