Jersey City, NJ - Vice President Al Gore joined Governor Phil Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy today to announce New Jersey's newest ambitious goal on offshore wind. Today's announcement to more than double NJ's offshore wind targets to 7,500 MW by 2035 will make New Jersey a national leader on this vital technology.

"We are thrilled to hear Governor Murphy's announcement that bigger things are ahead of us on the offshore wind horizon. New Jersey is a national front runner," stated Amy Goldsmith, NJ State Director, Clean Water Action. "It is imperative that we do everything we can to reduce greenhouse gases by 45% as fast as we can by 2030. Ramping up renewables like wind and solar as well as advancing energy efficiency and clean transportation are critical; and they must go hand in hand with saying no to any more fossil fuel projects if we are to survive the climate reality of the future which is already here."

Today's announcement of more than doubling of previous wind target to 7,500 MW by 2035, along with previously awarded contract for 1,100 MW to be developed by Orsted, and the partnership between the Board of Public Utilities and Economic Development Authority to make NJ an economic hub for all things wind turbines are critical for a real renewable energy and environmentally just economy.
