Washington DC -- Today the US Senate introduced the “For the People Act (S. 1)”. The House of Representatives passed its version of the same bill a few weeks ago.

Clean Water Action President and CEO, Bob Wendelgass, responded:

“Today we’re one step closer to building a democracy that works for all of us. The For the People Act couldn’t come at a more critical time -- state legislators across the country have introduced hundreds of bills to restrict voting rights and make it harder for we the people to have a voice in our elections and politics. S 1 is full of common sense reforms that will lessen the influence of dark money on our politics, expand access to the ballot, end partisan gerrymandering, and hold elected officials to a higher ethical standard.

The For the People Act is unequivocally good for our nation. A strong and vibrant democracy is essential to protecting our water and health. Putting the power back in the hands of the people will help us take bold action to safeguard our water and tackle the climate crisis. The Senate must pass this transformational bill quickly so it can be signed and we can begin to implement the provisions, especially as states begin the process of redistricting.
