Washington DC -- Racist hate and violence against Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders (AAPI) in the United States has been on the rise recently, culminating in the deadly shootings at three Asian American owned businesses in Georgia.
Clean Water Action President and CEO, Bob Wendelgass, released the following statement:
“Our hearts go out to the families of the victims of the recent attacks in Georgia and the victims of the rising Asian hate across the country. We stand in grief and solidarity with AAPI communities impacted by the deep-rooted racism, misogyny and bigotry. The United States has an ugly history of anti-Asian racism, stretching back to the Chinese Exclusion Act and continuing today, which we all must work to end. The recent rise in racist hate attacks on people of Asian descent is appalling and has been fueled by dangerous rhetoric about COVID-19 from politicians and public figures, including former President Trump. It’s unacceptable and now is the time for all of us to speak out with one voice, across the nation: Asian hate must stop.”
