Washington DC -- Today the House of Representatives passed H.R. 51, the DC Statehood bill.

Clean Water Action President and CEO, Bob Wendelgass, released the following response:

This is a great day -- the House of Representatives affirmed that the residents of the District should have the same rights as the residents of every other state. The people of Washington DC, the majority of whom are Black and brown, have waited far too long for voting representation in Congress and the ability to control their own affairs, just like every other state. This is a big step toward equality and justice, and a more perfect union. We look forward to pushing for passage of this historic bill in the Senate.
