Senator Bob Smith (D-17): “We have had two major victories for the environment this term through the teamwork of the individuals recognized today along with the many environmental groups in our state – getting the constitutional dedication of natural resource damages (NRD) on this November’s ballot and reforming the electronic waste program. Now we need folks to vote yes on NRD on election day, and during lame duck and next term we are focusing on electric vehicles, stormwater utilities and fighting the Trump EPA.”
Senator Shirley K. Turner (D-15): “Clean and safe drinking water is a basic human need, which is why it is paramount that we protect our natural resources and water supplies, and also replace aging infrastructure that risks delivering toxic water into our homes and schools. No one should ever live with the fear that the water coming through the tap is unsafe, and no parent should ever live with the distress of watching their child suffer the lifelong consequences of lead poisoning, especially when exposure is preventable. Protecting our water supplies and our children from lead is one of the most important public health issues of our time, which is why I am committed to doing all that I can to keep our water clean and safe.”
Senator Loretta Weinberg (D-37): “I am so honored to be named an environmental hero by Clean Water Action. Water is one of the main elements of life and. we cannot wait for a new governor. Time for action is now! Thank you for the honor and for the challenge of making sure that NJ residents have clean water.”
Assemblyman Dan Benson (D-14): “We need to set a bold agenda to match the new leadership we can expect with a new governor. Yet on many items we can't afford to wait until next year, and must act in lame duck to protect NJ's residents!"

Assemblyman Reed Gusciora (D-15): "I am honored to be named one of Clean Water Action's Environmental Heroes for 2017. Even with a Governor who has obstructed the advancement of environmentally-conscious policy, as a Legislature, we've managed to accomplish a lot by making our priorities heard loud and clear. I look forward to, hopefully, working with a Democratic administration, as well as a bolstered Democratic legislature, in the near future, so we can enact critical policies, such as a statewide ban on fracking and fracking waste disposal, green jobs training incentives, and programs to promote and finance the development of clean energy infrastructure.

I look forward to the day when we return to an agenda that includes acknowledging the ravages of climate change, rejoining RGGI, stopping pipelines, promoting open space acquisition and protecting our state’s drinking water, banning fracking waste and dedicating recovery monies to remediation. Although the last eight years under Governor Christie were a major setback for the environmental movement, we now more than ever need to regroup and not dwell on the past. We must move forward and begin working immediately to reverse the Governor’s disastrous regulatory rollbacks on Highlands and flood hazard protections, protect our drinking water from dangerous gas pipelines, and began working to once again, promote renewable energy, which will keep our environment clean while supporting new jobs. I am committed to begin working on these shared priorities in lame duck and with the new Governor and look forward to next year when we can tout even greater environmental accomplishments.”
