Check out the Environmental Heroes from Clean Water Action's PDF iconNJ Legislative Scorecard 2017

In Alphabetical Order by House

Senator Kip Bateman (R-16): “I appreciate the recognition from Clean Water Action. Protecting our environment is one of the most important things we can do for future generations and I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues ‘across the aisle’ for the benefit of all New Jersey residents. The environment and clean water are too important to wait until the new Governor and Legislature are sworn in to office. We should act immediately on the pressing environmental issues."

Senator and former Governor Dick Codey (D-27): "I'm proud to stand with Clean Water Action to lead the way to protect our environment. It is up to leaders to stand up and preserve our fragile resources for today and tomorrow and years to come as our environment is the legacy we leave to future generations."

Senator Bob Gordon (D-38): "I am honored to be recognized for my legislative record by Clean Water Action. Protecting the environment is vital to New Jersey’s future and I am proud of all that we’ve accomplished to safeguard against threats to our climate and to improve our residents’ quality of life. There is certainly more to do, and I am committed to working with advocates, my colleagues and the next administration to ensure New Jersey is an environmental leader.”

Senator Linda Greenstein (D-14): “It’s a great honor to be recognized once again for my environmental record in the Legislature by such well-respected advocates for the environment as Clean Water Action. As vice chair of the Senate Environment and Energy Committee, I take pride in working toward advancements for a more sustainable future for generations of New Jerseyans to come. Whether that is by pushing back against fracking or pushing ahead with electric cars and other forms of clean energy, it is a privilege to be able to work on behalf of responsible stewardship of our environment.”

Senator Ray Lesniak (D-20): “It's a great achievement to be designated a hero by Clean Water Action. A healthy environment is essential to create jobs, grow our economy, to protect our health and the well-being of future generations. Although I'm leaving the legislature when my term expires in January, I will continue championing a clean environment for New Jersey residents and for all humanity. And we still have lame duck!"

Senator Bob Smith (D-17): “We have had two major victories for the environment this term through the teamwork of the individuals recognized today along with the many environmental groups in our state – getting the constitutional dedication of natural resource damages (NRD) on this November’s ballot and reforming the electronic waste program. Now we need folks to vote yes on NRD on election day, and during lame duck and next term we are focusing on electric vehicles, stormwater utilities and fighting the Trump EPA.”

Senator Shirley K. Turner (D-15): “Clean and safe drinking water is a basic human need, which is why it is paramount that we protect our natural resources and water supplies, and also replace aging infrastructure that risks delivering toxic water into our homes and schools. No one should ever live with the fear that the water coming through the tap is unsafe, and no parent should ever live with the distress of watching their child suffer the lifelong consequences of lead poisoning, especially when exposure is preventable. Protecting our water supplies and our children from lead is one of the most important public health issues of our time, which is why I am committed to doing all that I can to keep our water clean and safe.”

Senator Loretta Weinberg (D-37): “I am so honored to be named an environmental hero by Clean Water Action. Water is one of the main elements of life and. we cannot wait for a new governor. Time for action is now! Thank you for the honor and for the challenge of making sure that NJ residents have clean water.”

Assemblyman Dan Benson (D-14): “We need to set a bold agenda to match the new leadership we can expect with a new governor.  Yet on many items we can't afford to wait until next year, and must act in lame duck to protect NJ's residents!"

Assemblyman Tim Eustace (D-38): “I'm proud to be listed as a champion for our environment. We must remember that the environment surrounding us, our air and our water, has a direct impact on the health of our children, our seniors, and everyone in between. Every day matters when it comes to protecting our environment and our health and I look forward to a productive session when we return to Trenton in lame duck and next year.”

Assemblyman Reed Gusciora (D-15): "I am honored to be named one of Clean Water Action's Environmental Heroes for 2017. Even with a Governor who has obstructed the advancement of environmentally-conscious policy, as a Legislature, we've managed to accomplish a lot by making our priorities heard loud and clear. I look forward to, hopefully, working with a Democratic administration, as well as a bolstered Democratic legislature, in the near future, so we can enact critical policies, such as a statewide ban on fracking and fracking waste disposal, green jobs training incentives, and programs to promote and finance the development of clean energy infrastructure.

Assemblywoman Mila Jasey (D-27): “It is the heroic perseverance of Clean Water Action, particularly during these last years when its efforts have been thwarted by an administration that has turned a blind eye to the need to protect our environment and natural resources, that makes this recognition particularly meaningful.  I look forward to the day when we return to an agenda that includes acknowledging the ravages of climate change, rejoining RGGI, stopping pipelines, promoting open space acquisition and protecting our state’s drinking water, banning fracking waste and dedicating recovery monies to remediation.  It is imperative that we pursue renewable, sustainable energy sources and I look forward to continue working with Clean Water Action to ensure a legacy of a safe, clean environment for our children and theirs.  I am honored and grateful.”

Assemblyman John McKeon (D-27): “It’s an honor to be named an environmental “hero” on Clean Water Action’s scorecard. Although the last eight years under Governor Christie were a major setback for the environmental movement, we now more than ever need to regroup and not dwell on the past. We must move forward and begin working immediately to reverse the Governor’s disastrous regulatory rollbacks on Highlands and flood hazard protections, protect our drinking water from dangerous gas pipelines, and began working to once again, promote renewable energy, which will keep our environment clean while supporting new jobs. I am committed to begin working on these shared priorities in lame duck and with the new Governor and look forward to next year when we can tout even greater environmental accomplishments.”

Assemblywoman Liz Muoio  (D-15): "Now more than ever it is crucial for us to raise our voices and advocate at the state level in support of measures that protect our water, land and air - precious and finite resources now under constant threat at the federal level. I am proud to stand with Clean Water Action and New Jersey's environmental leaders in the fight to ensure a clean, safe environment for future generations."

Assemblywoman Nancy Pinkin (D-18): "I am deeply honored by this recognition.  We need to be vigilant against the Trump administration and EPA Chief Scott Pruitt's attempts to dismantle generations of bipartisan support for environmental protection. I stand proudly with Clean Water Action and their allies as we turn the page here in New Jersey, moving away from the past eight years of the Christie administration to a new day where our natural resources first.  I very much appreciate this honor, and I look forward to working with Clean Water Action to put us on the right path again."

Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-37): "I am honored to be recognized once again as an Environmental Hero by Clean Water Action. However, we need strong Legislative Heroes now more than ever to keep NJ on the fast track for clean energy legislation. We must continue to take action to promote solar, wind and green technology jobs as the Trump administration moves forward to rollback and dismantle our progress. Protecting and preserving New Jersey's environment isn't a choice; it’s a mandatory and moral obligation we have to our children and the future of our state. I am proud to work with Clean Water Action to make these goals realities."

Assemblyman John Wisniewski (D-19): “Protecting New Jersey’s natural resources and preserving open space are critical to the quality of life in our state. As my tenure in the legislature comes to an end, I’m proud that this will be part of the legacy I leave for future generations."
