Every election cycle, Clean Water Action endorses deserving candidates who will champion clean water, clean air, and climate justice. Presenting: our first round of endorsements!
For President and Vice President:
Kamala Harris and Tim Walz: Vice President Harris and Governor Tim Walz have a demonstrated commitment to clean water. Vice President Harris is a visible leader in the Biden-Harris Administration's successful work to address environmental injustice, tackle the climate crisis, hold polluters accountable, reduce water pollution, and ensure clean drinking water for all. Governor Walz signed Amara's Law, the nation's strongest PFAS legislation to reduce use of these "forever" chemicals.
U.S. Congress:
For U.S. Senate: Senator Elizabeth Warren - Senator Warren is a powerful advocate for environmental policy and has supported our national priorities including being an original co-sponsor of the Environmental Justice for All Act and supporting funding for federal environmental programs. Locally, she delivered funding for electric school buses in five Massachusetts school districts.
For U.S. House of Representatives, 2nd Congressional District: Representative Jim McGovern - Representative McGovern has prioritized environmental justice and climate resiliency throughout his time in Congress, given the prominence of these issues within his district. A co-sponsor of the Environmental Justice for All Act and the Green New Deal resolution, Rep. McGovern is an active advocate for those affected by the consequences of climate change, particularly farmers and EJ communities in his district.
Massachusetts State Legislature
For State Senate:
Worcester and Hampshire District: Sheila Dibb – Dibb has been deeply involved in local politics for years, serving as a Rutland selectboard member for 13 years. Protecting access to clean water is her top legislative priority, particularly in her district where limited and contaminated water sources are a prominent concern. Her environmental activism in both her municipal and personal work demonstrates her strength as a partner on these issues.
Hampden District: Senator Adam Gomez (incumbent) - Senator Gomez, a lifelong native of western Massachusetts, has been a dedicated ally in the State House, sponsoring or co-sponsoring Clean Water Action priorities including the creation of a Zero Carbon Renovation Fund and legislation to improve air quality.
Berkshire, Hampden, Franklin and Hampshire District: Senator Paul Mark (incumbent) - Senator Mark is a strong supporter of environmental legislation, most recently co-sponsoring legislation to improve air quality and fund zero-carbon renovations of existing buildings.
For State House of Representatives:
6th Plymouth District: Rebecca (Becky) Coletta - Coletta, a former business lawyer, social worker, and public servant, includes environmental and coastal resiliency and protecting constituents’ access to public open spaces and bodies of water in her primary issues of concern. She will be a dependable ally on environmental policy.
2nd Bristol District: Representative James (Jim) Hawkins (incumbent) - Representative Hawkins has been a longtime champion of public health and has worked to protect Massachusetts residents and waterways from toxic chemicals. This year, he was the lead sponsor of the successful bill to ban PFAS in firefighter turnout gear.
7th Middlesex District: Representative Jack Patrick Lewis (incumbent) - Representative Lewis has prioritized the passage of legislation that bans PFAS in consumer products, further combats climate change, invests in green energy jobs, and expands offshore wind projects. Locally, he has worked to improve pedestrian and bike infrastructure in his district.
25th Middlesex District: Representative Marjorie Decker (incumbent) - Representative Decker has been a strong legislative ally for Clean Water Action. During the last legislative cycle, she championed legislation restricting toxic PFAS as chair of the Joint Committee on Public Health and previously was the lead sponsor on a successful bill to ban toxic flame retardants.
3rd Berkshire District: Leigh Davis - Leigh Davis, a first-time candidate, is running on a platform that prioritizes climate and environmental justice.
