The problem: Massachusetts generates 6 million tons of garbage every year. That waste ends up in landfills and incinerators that pollute the air and water of neighboring communities. But nearly a third of the trash we create in Massachusetts is food waste that we can divert from the waste stream!

The solution: We need more opportunities for composting in the Commonwealth to make it easier for residents to keep food out of the trash!

Write a letter to the Commissioner of MassDEP, Bonnie Heiple, urging her to support municipal composting programs and keep more organic and food waste out of landfills and incinerators!
