PFAS are used in all sorts of products because they make those products waterproof, greaseproof, or, in the case of some dental flosses, slide easily.  But the cost for these mere conveniences is exceptionally high; cancer, reproductive harm, impaired immunity, and the contamination of drinking water sources for 25 million Californians are just some of the problems caused by these toxic, forever chemicals.

Take action today to stop unnecessary uses of PFAS!

That’s why we’re co-sponsoring SB 682 (Allen), which will ban PFAS for all non-essential uses, such as dental floss.  SB 682 takes a science-based approach to the problem that recognizes that while most uses of PFAS are not essential and have safer alternatives, there may be a few uses that are both important to society and will require more time to reformulate.  That’s why the bill lays out a thoughtful framework that allows companies that make such products to apply for an extension that allows them to sell their PFAS-containing products while striving to innovate toward safer, sustainable alternatives.

Makes sense, right?  Our state decision-makers need to know that you think so.  They need to hear that you want sustainable products, without the health risks and environmental contamination that PFAS are responsible for.  Tell your state lawmakers to vote “aye” on SB 682 when it comes to them for a vote.
