Update: The County Commissioners voted 3-2 in favor of the Watershed Conservation District! Thank you to Commissioners Murphy, Robinson, and Stewart for voting to limit sprawl development around Mattawoman Creek and the headwaters of the Port Tobacco River!

Last year, your overwhelming support passed the Charles County Comprehensive Plan. The plan called for some great things, such as preventing sprawl development around the Mattawoman Creek and the headwaters of the Port Tobacco River through a Watershed Conservation District.

Now we need your help to make sure that the planned Watershed Conservation District is implemented! The development lobby has testified in opposition to the Watershed Conservation District, and instead of protecting green spaces it wants to fill them with 17,000 more houses.

Please take a moment to let the Charles County Commissioners know that you SUPPORT the Watershed Conservation District.

Here's some text that you can use if you want:

I support the Watershed Conservation District and a Smarter Future for Charles County! I don’t want 17,000 new houses on the land surrounding Mattawoman Creek and the headwaters of the Port Tobacco River. I don’t want business as usual: rural land forever lost to sprawl development, overcrowded schools, congested roads and high property taxes. I support protecting our quality of life with the Watershed Conservation District.

Also, please join us to show your support for the Watershed Conservation District at the County Commissioners public hearing on the Watershed Conservation District on Wednesday, May 24th at the County Office Building in La Plata. Sign in begins at 3:30 PM, and the first hearing will run from 4 - 6 PM. Then, after a break, the commissioners will reconvene at 6:30 PM.
