“The Mass Save® program is a step toward energy justice, ensuring that all communities have access to affordable, clean, energy-saving solutions.”

We are developing outreach efforts that focus on empowering local grassroots organizations and amplifying the voices of Environmental Justice communities to make Mass Save Programs more accessible to underserved populations.

"I’m dedicated to making energy efficiency accessible and understandable for everyone -because small changes lead to big impacts in our homes and communities."

We are developing outreach efforts that focus on empowering local grassroots organizations and amplifying the voices of Environmental Justice communities to make Mass Save Programs more accessible to underserved populations. By fostering strong, community-based partnerships, we aim to build ongoing advocacy for Mass Save programs, ensuring that no neighborhood gets left behind.

All ratepayers contribute to the state's energy efficiency programs through their energy bills, yet Environmental Justice communities are less likely to participate in these programs and receive the benefits, like:

  • Lower energy bills
  • Homes that stay warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer
  • Safer indoor air quality
  • Improved home value

Inefficiencies like air leaks from windows and doors, poor insulation, and aging HVAC systems are more common in low- and moderate-income households. Outreach in Environmental Justice communities empowers residents to improve their own homes in practical ways, and it also helps move our entire state closer to a clean energy future that benefits all of us.

Why does our outreach work? Connection matters!

Our Energy Efficiency Outreach Specialist is intentional in partnering with neighbors, grassroots groups, and organizers who are already working in their local communities and who know best how to engage their community. Our team is tabling at local events and gatherings where we can answer questions and build trust as well as creating blogs, social media, and other digital content for city partners to share. A key part of our outreach is connecting with local non-profit organizations to co-host workshops that provide an in-depth, interactive presentation on how and why neighbors are participating in energy efficiency programs.

Our outreach is about more than just helping neighbors save money on their utility bill; it addresses the real climate injustices in underserved communities resulting from decades of negligence including higher risks from severe heat, increased exposure to toxic air and water pollution, and vulnerability to extreme weather events. That’s why our Energy Efficiency Outreach Specialist also establishes and maintains relationships with both city officials and grassroots leaders to bring the issues seen and heard from residents in EJ communities directly to decision-makers.

Energy Justice is the concept that all communities, regardless of income, race or background, should have access to affordable, reliable, and clean energy. Right now, low- and moderate-income neighborhoods are disproportionately impacted by pollution and high energy costs. When we promote equitable access to energy efficiency programs, we fight injustice. Every ratepayer is paying into our state program, and everyone should reap the benefits and participate in making a more sustainable energy future for all.

We invite you to join us!
