This year’s Earth Day theme is to draw attention to the urgency of the climate crisis and environmental degradation - and the need for immediate action. The focus is to support local communities and areas that are disproportionately affected by environmental issues.
This theme is at the core of Clean Water Action’s mission and goals. As challenging as this past year was for so many of us, we’ve stepped up to the challenge of ensuring clean water, healthy communities, and environmental justice for all. We are spearheading efforts to restore and improve critical drinking water programs and infrastructure, phase out harmful chemicals in consumer products, and stop fossil fuel pollution from poisoning our communities and driving the climate crisis. By attending our annual virtual fundraising event, you will help play a critical role in supporting these programs now and into the future. Purchase your tickets or sponsor the event here.
Typically, we would be gathering in Washington D.C. to celebrate our annual event in person. But this year, we’re excited to host this event on a virtual platform that allows friends both near and far to sit at a ‘virtual’ table together and see one another, while enjoying the event safely from home. So tell everyone you know, and reserve your table today!
And did we mention wine? You’ll get to meet John Lockwood, the owner and winemaker for Enfield Wine Company in California, during a virtual wine tasting featuring two incredible wines: Citrine Chardonnay and Pretty Horses Tempranillo. John sustainably farms organic grapes in Napa as well as purchasing from other small growers around that tell the story of the soil and the climate. His limited production wines focus on low intervention, natural winemaking and are highly sought after and served at many of the top restaurants around the country. For every ticket purchase, you will receive two bottles of wine shipped directly to you from the winery to enjoy! But you must purchase your tickets by May 13th - click here to ensure delivery.
You can also enjoy the event without wine. We’ll be featuring a special musical performance and video presentations about our work in communities around the country. Meet Clean Water Action’s incredible community activists including Kim Gaddy in New Jersey and Jesus Alonso in California who have spent years on the frontlines fighting for environmental justice in communities of color. Learn about our ReThink Disposable program helping to stop the tsunami of single-use plastic pollution from harming our water and our work to protect kids and firefighters from toxic flame retardant chemicals in Massachusetts.
You’ll also get to meet two fantastic people that are very important to our organization and are trailblazers in the clean water and environmental justice movement: our CEO and President Bob Wendelgass and board vice-chair Vernice Miller-Travis!
So what are you waiting for? Make Earth Day every day by joining us at our annual virtual celebration, Protecting Our Water, on May 20th at 7 PM EST! We can’t wait to see you there.
