By Chris Bathurst, National Canvass Director It is light longer. Temperatures are climbing and birds are migrating. You are probably excited about the prospects of spring, followed closely by summer (especially if you live anywhere in the northeast). Your friendly door to door Clean Water Action organizer is also welcoming the change of season. We are very proud of our field staff for their intrepid work throughout this entire challenging winter - save for say our California and Texas team of course. I want to take this time to let you know a little more about those bundles of clothes that show up in the evening at your door step. Our professional team leaves the warmth of their office and vehicle and into the darkness of winter, arriving at your neighborhood around 4:30 pm. For the next 4.5 hours they talk with you about clean energy, power plant pollution, and toxics in everyday consumer products, Protecting your drinking water along with your favorite body of water for recreation. Just to name a few critical and timely issues. All the while they are deftly dealing with very cold temperatures and other meteorological offerings. Moreover I want to point out that in the two coldest months of the winter they visited over 135,000 households – your homes - and with you mobilized over 8,000 hand written letters to elected officials. Now that is dedication. As someone who opened the door on a cold winter evening and wrote a letter, made a contribution, offered something warm to eat or drink. I want to let you know we thank you – your local door to door Clean Water Action organizer thanks you. And in turn we all owe them a warm token of our appreciation.
