We’re less than a week from the election. Clean Water Staff across the country will be blogging about what it means nationally and locally. Check back for more. Voting in this election is extremely important, especially for Colorado. We are making a decision about our environmental and economic future and there are some extremely close races.  We face a choice between fracking on our precious public lands or wildlife conservation and protecting our vital recreational economy on public lands. We have a choice between stronger air quality protections, and reduced emissions, or toxic air emission exemptions for corporate polluters.  We’re choosing between corporate welfare tax breaks for Big Oil, or tax breaks for Coloradan’s and support for wind and solar. These stark choices between candidates and the policies they support are why Clean Water Action endorses candidates who will fight for clean water, clean air, and public health.  Clean Water Action is endorsing President Barack Obama, Sal Pace for U.S. House district 3, and Joe Miklosi for U.S. House district 6. President Obama’s record has been strong on the environment, and his leadership has been essential in stopping anti-environmental bills moving through Congress. He has strengthened EPA air emission rules to reduce mercury and other toxic emissions from coal fired power plants, cement kilns, and industrial boilers to protect public health; he has backed the BLM’s new regulations on drilling and fracking on our public lands; and he has raised fuel-efficiency standards for new vehicles to 54 mpg. Obama has fought against the notion that environmental policy that protects clean water and public health are “job killers” and stood strong to protect our environmental future. The race is incredibly close – but the choice is clear. We must re-elect President Barack Obama. Sal Pace (D)-Pueblo is running against first-term Congressman Scott Tipton (R)-Cortez to represent the entire western slope and Pueblo. It’s a close race and your vote will help make the difference. Pace currently serves on the Agriculture and Natural Resources committee in the Colorado State House. He has a strong pro-environment voting record and has voted to protect Colorado’s renewable energy standard and forest restoration programs. He wants to protect the outdoor recreation-based economy in the region through conservation and feels it is very important to protect the headwaters of the Colorado, Arkansas, and Rio Grande rivers. He has our support and he deserves yours. Joe Miklosi (D)-Aurora is running against Congressman Mike Coffman (R)-Aurora in Colorado’s 6th District, which was recently redistricted.  Miklosi currently serves in the Colorado House of Representatives and was a strong supporter of Amendment 37, the State’s renewable energy standard. He has voted to support electric vehicles and to add important protections from oil and gas drilling and fracking for our communities. Representative Miklosi strongly supports protecting the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act. He also wants to continue building a clean energy economy by bringing more renewable energy companies to the state and increasing the renewable energy standard. He is very concerned with preserving and conserving Colorado’s valuable water resources and protecting our public lands. Joe Miklosi has our support and he deserves yours. Every vote counts here in Colorado in these three incredibly close races. Be a clean water voter on November 6th!
