By Lily Dieck, Michigan Intern The clock is ticking for Michigan voters. With less than one week until the Election Day, one of the most important decisions they will make is protecting the future of Michigan’s environment. Proposal 3, Michigan Energy Michigan Jobs, will raise the states renewable energy standard to 25% by 2025.  This will secure jobs that cannot be outsourced.  Proposal 3 will shape the future of Michigan’s economy and health by allowing residents to live in a state that is more energy independent and lessens the harmful toxins released into our air and water. As a student this Proposal means so much more than changing Michigan’s policies. It’s about students being able to walk across a campus that doesn’t have a coal- fire power plant (Michigan State University currently has the LARGEST on campus plant), being able to find a job in the expanding clean energy industry, and knowing that we are investing in technologies that will save us money. Join me and spread the word about Proposal 3! On October 30th, environmental groups across the nation will be joining together to make over 60,000 calls to voters about Proposal 3. (Sign up here for 2 hour volunteer calling shifts; you can even do it from home!) It’s time that Michigan voters choose the future that they envision, and not the one that corporations are trying to push.
