Water Wasteland and the Clean Water Act

The Clean Water Act would not have passed without the efforts of many to expose water pollution problems and to make the case for a federal program.  An important contribution to this body of research and advocacy was Water Wasteland, written David Zwick and Marcy Benstock and published in 1971.  In the preface, Clean Water Action founder David Zwick wrote:

Our report is uncompromising, and often harsh, in the judgments it makes. But we believe it is fair. It is our hope that it will help clean up the water and add generally to sound public policies.

As so many are noting this week as we mark the 40^th anniversary of our landmark water law, mission accomplished.  Let’s move on to the unfinished business of protecting this most valuable resource. In September, Clean Water Action celebrated our fortieth anniversary in Washington, DC. We toasted to our history, forty years of the Clean Water Act, and talked about the future.  Clean Water Action Founder David Zwick was honored at the event in WashingtonDC celebrating the organization’s 40^th birthday.  Here are a few other photos from that wonderful night.
