2024 Connecticut Election Dates

Polls Open 6am to 8pm
Absentee Ballots must be received by mail or dropped off by 8pm

August 13th: Primary Election

Voter Registration

You can pre-register to vote in Connecticut Online or By Mail
The pre-registration deadline to vote in a Connecticut election is 18 days before Election Day.

To Register Within 18 Days:

  • For the Primary Election if you are not yet registered but want to vote in a primary election, you can file a voter registration application (for the party holding a primary) with the registrars of voters in your town before noon on the day before the primary. 
  • Same Day Registration is available for the General Election only 
    • Early Voting: You can register to vote at your Early Voting Site for the general election.
    • Election Day: You can register to vote at a designated location in your town for the general election (NOT your polling place).
  • If you are registering for the first time in your town, you must provide the following:
    • Your driver’s license number or, if none, the last four digits of the voter’s social security number
    • A copy of a current and valid ID
    • A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or government document that shows your name and address.

Absentee Ballots

Connecticut Absentee Ballot Information

A reason is needed to vote absentee in Connecticut. You can apply for an absentee ballot if you meet any of the following criteria:

  • You are an active member of the armed forces of the United States
  • You will be out of town on Election Day
  • Sickness prevents you from voting in person on Election Day
  • Your religious beliefs prevent you from voting on Election Day
  • You will be performing duties as an election official at a polling place other than your own on Election Day
  • A physical disability prevents you from voting in person on Election Day 

You must submit an absentee ballot application 7 days before Election Day. Your absentee ballot application can be returned to your Town Clerk or submitted online

If you have an unforeseen illness or physical disability within 6 days of an election, you can request an emergency absentee ballot.

Cast Your Vote

Where And How To Vote

You can cast your vote in Connecticut:

  • At an Early Voting Site beginning on Monday the week before Election Day and concluding on the Sunday before Election Day. Any voter may vote early. 
  • Absentee Ballots can be returned by mail, in person at the Town Clerk's office, or via a secure drop box in your town. Absentee ballots must be received before 8pm on Election Day. 
  • At your Polling Place on Election Day.
