The Connecticut Legislative Session starts today and we're ready to advocate for the policies we need to protect our water, our health, and our climate.

The first step is to put an end to last year’s destructive raid on funds for our Green Bank and the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). These are critical programs to reduce our carbon emissions and help our residents and business owners save money through energy efficiency renewable energy options. These programs don’t just protect our environment – they save consumers money and create clean energy jobs. Connecticut residents can take action today to ensure these funds are used as they were intended – to protect our environment.

Here are some of our other priorities for a busy 2018 legislative session:

  • Adoption of the Governor's Climate Change Council's interim target of a 45% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030;
  • Expanding electric vehicle incentives and infrastructure, and scaling up the requirement for utilities to buy power from solar and wind;
  • Ramping up renewable energy for all, including more shared solar;
  • Adoption of the state water plan that sets the foundation for managing, protecting and conserving our state's waters--and treats water as part of the public trust rather than a commodity that can be owned by water utilities.

This "short session" ends on May 9th and we have a lot to accomplish.

We'll be reaching out to our Connecticut members with action alerts, requests for calls to your legislators and invitations to join us in Hartford for lobby days. Sign up for our emails, and connect with us on facebook and twitter to stay up to date on how you can help protect our waters, our environment and public health.

Together, we're making a difference!!
