It's time for the President Trump to end his shutdown and put our government back to work

The Environmental Protection Agency had surplus budget and was able to operate for the first week of the government shutdown. Today it was announced that the agency had run through those funds and is beginning shutdown procedures.

Clean Water Action President and CEO, Bob Wendelgass, released the following statement:

“Over the past two years the President and the corporate cronies he installed throughout EPA have done everything industry has asked, rolling back commonsense protections for our health and water. Now corporate polluters and special interests are getting an extra gift from the Trump administration. Thanks to the Trump Shutdown, EPA won't even be able to pretend to protect our water and communities, which is exactly what radical members of Congress and corporate polluters have wanted for decades. The President’s agenda is making people sick and putting communities throughout the country at risk. His insistence on an unnecessary border wall has hobbled our government and put hundreds of thousands of dedicated civil servants out of work. We renew our call for the President and his allies to end this political stunt and put our government back to work.”

Since our founding during the campaign to pass the landmark Clean Water Act in 1972, Clean Water Action has worked to win strong health and environmental protections by bringing issue expertise, solution-oriented thinking and people power to the table. We will protect clean water in the face of attacks from a polluter friendly Administration and Congress.
