Clean Water Action is a national, grassroots environmental organization that seeks to protect the environment and safeguard public health, promote passage of strong environmental laws, and help communities address local environmental problems affecting them. Clean Water Action has close to 1 million members nationally. Clean Water Fund provides research, education, organizing, and technical assistance to strengthen grassroots environmental efforts around the country, promoting the public interest on issues related to water, natural resources, health, and a healthy economy. Clean Water Action and Clean Water Fund work together on selected campaigns and programs.

Clean Water Action and Clean Water Fund are actively seeking a passionate and dedicated Hybrid Program Coordinator with a strong commitment to environmental justice. Your motivation to address environmental challenges, particularly in BIPOC or low-income communities most vulnerable to pollution burdens, is crucial for the impactful work ahead. Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Clean Water’s program work in the District of Columbia and Northern Virginia and in Maryland as directed, under the supervision of the Chesapeake Regional Director
  • Develop and implement campaigns in the region, including legislative and electoral campaigns, community and coalition organizing, policy development, and research and public education programs.
  • Develop and carry out local and state campaigns; work with national staff to implement local and state elements of national campaigns.
  • Help develop and implement campaigns to improve the environment and public health in Washington DC’s Wards 7 and 8 in conjunction with the Anacostia Parks & Community Collaborative’s Policy Workgroup, Steering Committee, and member groups.
  • Lead planning and implementation of strategies to recruit members and activists in the District of Columbia and Virginia.
  • Provide remote or in-person support for the Maryland office’s food waste diversion program, including engaging with local governments, presenting at community events, and writing and developing public-facing communications like webinars, emails, and blog posts.
  • Help develop and implement fundraising plans in coordination with national staff, raising funds from foundations, individual donors, and other sources.
  • Provide program direction and support for field and phone canvass programs; work in partnership with canvass leadership to build strong canvass programs.
  • Represent Clean Water in work with other organizations, public officials, funders, and the media. Regular travel throughout the region required.
  • Conduct other work as directed by supervisor. 
Qualifications
  • 4+ years’ experience as a manager or organizer with an environmental or other non-profit organization.
  • Environmental experience is preferred though not required; experience with grassroots organizing, coalition building, and campaigns is required.
  • Ability to manage diverse projects and multiple priorities.
  • Ability to provide strategic leadership to build and direct the organization’s programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required.
  • The ability to travel throughout the region is a requirement.
  • Successful fundraising experience with foundations, major donors, and events.
  • Experience developing and working with leadership bodies such as boards of directors, campaign or coalition steering committees.
  • Cultural competence, commitment to racial justice and equity, and experience working with diverse communities and populations.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and computer literacy.
  • Experience with professional canvass programs is highly desirable.
  • Multilingual and BIPOC candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
