Clean Water Action Endorses Ed Gainey as the next Mayor of Pittsburgh
Last week, Ed Gainey won the primary election to become the Democratic nominee for Mayor of Pittsburgh. It’s now time to get behind Ed and his vision for building a better and more inclusive Pittsburgh.
That’s why Clean Water Action has moved to endorse Ed Gainey as the next Mayor of Pittsburgh.
Our endorsement of Bill Peduto during the primary had nothing to do with Ed. It was about recognizing Bill as an environmental champion with a history of making environmental issues a major priority in his public serve. His focus spawned a nearly two decade relationship between us that resulted in advancements for clean water, clean air and climate change.
Ed in his own right has been a strong supporter of environmental issues. He has partnered with us on community events around lead hazards, has a 98% lifetime environmental voting record in the General Assembly and is a past recipient of our local Dewey Award recognizing partnership and environmental achievement.
While there’s a chance Ed will not have a challenger in the general election, it’s still important that we begin coming together to create the commUNITY Ed talked about during the campaign as a need if we're going to successfully meet the challenges before us- environmental and otherwise. Whether you supported Mayor Peduto, Tony Moreno, Michael Thompson or just didn’t vote, we ask that you now move to join us in supporting Ed Gainey and helping him chart a new direction for Pittsburgh.
