Clean Water Action Endorses Jay Costa

Jay Costa for State Senate, District 43

Jay earned our support and deserves yours because he has developed the record of an environmental champion during his years in office. He had a 100% voting record on our 2017-18 Scorecard and has amassed an 80% lifetime voting record on environmental issues. As a leader within his party and the State Senate, he has acknowledged that our future depends on how we respond to environmental threats, especially the devastating effects of climate change. Towards those ends he has:

  • Introduced the Pennsylvania Local Solar Program which allows utility companies to create 100% Pennsylvania, solar-based energy programs by contracting directly with solar development companies.
  • Responded to President Trump’s pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement by introducing a cutting-edge Cap and Invest bill which will limit regional greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen our communities.
  • Fought hard to call attention to the public health crisis caused by lead hazards through supporting legislation to require health insurance companies to cover blood lead-level testing for children and pregnant women as well as establish a Lead Remediation and Abatement Superfund to help municipalities cover the cost of lead pipe removal.
  • Supported passage of regulations to control methane emissions from new oil and gas operations and advocated that these protections be extended to existing operations.
