No More Fossil Fuel Projects! Ridgefield Forum
New Jerseyans are joining together in opposition to the growing threat of new polluting pipelines, power plants, compressor stations, and other dangerous and unnecessary fossil fuel projects.
Empower NJ, a coalition of New Jersey's largest environmental, faith, and progressive organizations, is organizing the "NJ Tour For a Fossil Fuel Moratorium", a series of 6 public forums beginning February 18th and running through early April. We'll hear from experts and community leaders who are on the front lines of the fight to stop the Meadowlands Power Plant and the 12 new fossil fuel projects proposed throughout our state.
March 21st: Ridgefield Community Center, 7-9 pm
On March 21st, join us for a critical public forum on our fight to stop the Meadowlands Power Plant proposal, and to learn about the urgent case for a moratorium on fossil fuel development in New Jersey! The forum will take place from 7-9 pm at Ridgefield Community Center. Now is the time to grow our call for a rapid and fair transition to a New Jersey powered by 100% clean renewable energy. RSVP here or join the Facebook page.
Meadowlands Power Plant
If approved, the Meadowlands Power Plant would be one of the largest polluters in the state. After Trump pulled the U.S. out of the historic Paris Climate Agreement, Governor Murphy signed New Jersey onto the U.S. Climate Alliance, a pledge to uphold the goals from Paris to limit global temperature increases to 1.5 degrees Celsius, and no higher than 2 degrees. We commend the Governor for this and other positive climate actions since taking office, but our climate commitments cannot be reached if his administration continues approving new, long term fossil fuel expansion projects.
Simply put, if the Governor doesn't take immediate action to fight climate change by stopping new sources of green house gas pollution in NJ like the Meadowlands Power Plant, and by implementing a real plan to reduce existing green house gases, then he will be putting thousands of lives and billions of dollars in economic damage at risk.
