People who live in Washington, D.C. lack some basic rights that residents of the 50 states take for granted. People who live in D.C. have no voting representation in Congress. Congress controls the city’s budget. City officials in D.C. also can’t appoint their own local judges. That has to change.

Statehood is the only path to equal rights for residents of the District – it is the "unfinished chapter of the civil rights movement." More than 702,000 DC residents deserve to have a voting representative and two senators in Congress along with all the rights every other American enjoys.

The U.S. House of Representatives is debating a bill that could change that -- send a message to your Representative today. Let them know you support statehood for Washington, D.C.

There is a reason that D.C.’s license plates say “Taxation Without Representation” -- DC residents pay the highest federal taxes in the country, but their elected representative in Congress can’t vote on legislation. That’s not right.

Help us change this -- tell your Representative to support H.R. 51 - the Washington DC Admission Act for Statehood would end “Taxation Without Representation” for the 702,000 residents of DC.

Join us in our fight for equal justice! Together we can make DC the 51st state!
