The Usual Suspects
An Oil Company CEO; a Board Member of the Dakota Access Pipeline company; a one-term anti-environment coal-state Congressman who wants expanded fossil fuel development – more oil, gas and coal; the state Attorney General leading lawsuits against EPA and the Clean Water Rule.
All beholden to the oil and gas industry. All people who reject the urgent need to fight climate change. All nominated for key Trump Administration positions.
These nominations must be stopped. Their reckless agenda could reverse decades of clean water progress and increase our reliance on polluting fossil fuels.
- Rex Tillerson is the CEO of ExxonMobil, a company that knew about climate change for years, but lied about it. He would be the first Secretary of State with no experience in government.
- Former Texas Governor Rick Perry is Trump’s choice to head the Department of Energy, a department he said he wanted to eliminate. As Governor, he attempted to fast track more than a dozen permits for coal mining. He’s on the board of the company behind the Dakota Access pipeline.
- Representative Ryan Zinke, nominee for Secretary of the Interior, believes we should increase drilling and mining for oil, gas, and coal.
- Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, Trump’s pick for EPA has squandered taxpayer dollars on numerous lawsuits against EPA, and is currently leading the lawsuit to stop the Clean Water Rule. He dismantled the Oklahoma AG office’s environmental protection unit, and openly worked to advance oil and gas companies’ financial interests. He would be the first EPA Administrator ever to ignore the settled mainstream science on how fossil fuel pollution is causing climate change
Here is Clean Water Action’s plan to fight these nominations and the Trump Administration’s reckless dirty water agenda. Across the country we're going to educate the public about what the Trump administration and Congress is up to. We're going to organize as many people as possible. We're going to mobilize clean water action members and anyone who cares about our environment and people. And we're going to act to protect clean water and safeguard public health.
We can't let these usual suspects take charge of the vital federal agencies.
