Built By Michigan: Creating Jobs in the Electric Vehicle Industry

Electric cars are the future of the automobile industry and a key to innovation and leadership in technology and manufacturing in the 21st Century. Our state pioneered the auto industry and now we are at the vanguard of its future.

Already, the Chevy Volt is creating and retaining good-paying jobs in Michigan. And Ford’s upcoming Focus Electric will lead to even more jobs.

But all this growth will only happen if the market for electric vehicles is successful. Michigan can be the hub for 21st century auto technology innovation and provide good jobs for future generations, if electric car manufacturing and sales succeed here.

Please take a moment to urge Governor Rick Snyder and the state Legislature to support the success of Michigan's emerging electric car industry by:

  • Supporting U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow's proposed legislation that would allow electric vehicle buyers to receive a direct rebate instead of a tax credit;
  • Encouraging the state and other fleet vehicle purchasers to lease or buy electric vehicles;
  • Providing financial incentives for the installation of public and workplace charging stations for electric vehicles;
  • Implementing clean fuel standards that require an increasing percentage of electricity and other alternative fuels for powering vehicles within Michigan.
