Environmental Group Endorses former US Congressman in the Democratic Primary for Pennsylvania Attorney General
(Harrisburg) – Clean Water Action announced today their endorsement of Patrick Murphy in the Democratic Primary for Pennsylvania Attorney General. “During his time in Congress, Patrick demonstrated leadership and a commitment to protecting the environment and health of Pennsylvanians through such actions as co-sponsoring the FRAC Act to protect our drinking water from gas drilling, and helping create green jobs here in Pennsylvania,” said Myron Arnowitt, PA State Director for Clean Water Action. “I am confident he will carry this tradition with him to the Attorney General’s office.”
The endorsement by Clean Water Action of a candidate for Attorney General recognizes the impact this state office can have on environmental issues. “The Attorney General has always played an important role in protecting our environment by working to investigate and prosecute violations of crimes against the environment,” Arnowitt stated. “The importance of the role will only grow as new industries like natural gas drilling expand throughout the state. With the DEP’s budget drastically cut the past several years, we need strong oversight of environmental crimes by our Attorney General. That is why it is so important that we get someone like Patrick into this position.”
"Here in Pennsylvania, our Governor has given the Marcellus Shale industry a free pass. There have been 3,300 violations of environmental law and not one person has gone to jail. We need an Attorney General who will prosecute these crimes, not look the other way. Every Pennsylvanian has a constitutional right to clean air and clean water. As Attorney General I will enforce the law fairly and hold everyone to the same standard. I will
stop at nothing to bring to justice those who intentionally pollute our
environment," said Patrick Murphy. "I'm honored to earn the support of Clean Water Action and I look forward to working with them once again to protect our environment and ensure polluters are held accountable."
Clean Water Action, with over 100,000 members in Pennsylvania, has been empowering people for 40 years to take action to protect the environment, the health of our families and to make democracy work.
