STANISLAUS COUNTY, Calif. -- 40 families live in Monterey Park Tract subdivision. The community has had a long-standing problem with high levels of contaminants in the water. Now engineers from the nearby city of Ceres are trying to see if it can provide clean water to the community through a pipeline.
Residents say they cannot drink the water or cook with it. They are worried about the long-term health effects if something isn't done soon. Most neighbors say they live here by choice and don't want to move anywhere else.A grant of $200,000 is allowing for a closer look at the problem. Samples of water are being tested, and solutions including a pipeline from Ceres or drilling for a new well are being considered.
