Chesapeake Program and Outreach Intern

Clean Water Action is an organization of 1.2 million members working to empower people to take action to protect America's waters, build healthy communities and to make democracy work for all of us. For 36 years Clean Water Action has succeeded in winning some of the nation's most important environmental protections through grassroots organizing, expert policy research and political advocacy focused on holding elected officials accountable to the public.

Clean Water Action is looking for enthusiastic students or recent graduates who are willing to work hard advancing the goals of Clean Water Action in restoring the health of the Chesapeake Bay and the Anacostia River, engaging communities and building grassroots support.

Job Description

Specifically, interns will:

  • Assist with office administrative tasks, perform outreach as needed, and provide general support of Chesapeake and Anacostia program work.
  • Assist with writing of fact sheets and other materials for campaign use.
  • Strategize and help develop project ideas.
  • Research projects as assigned.
  • Attend watershed and community meetings and report back to Supervisor.
  • Write press releases, letters to editor, and other materials as needed.
  • Assist with additional projects as needed.

Interns can expect an educational and exciting experience. Interns should posses the following qualities:

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities

  • Ability to work with a diversity of peoples and groups
  • Independent worker
  • Self starter
  • Strong communication skills
  • Interest in politics, policy and the environment

Dates & Location

  • When: February - June 2009
  • Where: Washington DC (McPherson Square or Farragut North Metro)
  • Time commitment: Two days per week.
  • Credit and Perks: Course credit (dependent upon college protocol)
