Coal ash contains dangerous chemicals like arsenic, mercury and lead that can leak from storage sites and pollute the environment. Coal ash pollution has been known to cause cancer and neurological deficiencies in humans and deformities in fish. We need protections to be as strong as possible - Email your legislators today!
House Bill (HB) 5953 can open the door to dangerous uses of coal ash that will pollute Michigan’s environment and put residents’ health at risk. HB 5953 would allow toxic coal ash (and other dangerous pollutants like cement kiln dust) to be recycled and reused for things like construction fill or being spread on farmland, even though these uses have been shown to cause negative environmental and health impacts.
Help us oppose HB 5953 today! Send your lawmakers a message and tell them to reject this dangerous bill.
